New York State Police troopers were dispatched to a stretch of the parkway in Stony Point, where there were reports of a disabled vehicle on the side of the road. Upon arrival, troopers said they found Old Town, Fla. resident Matthew Pate, asleep at the wheel while in possession of a loaded handgun.
According to police, troopers arrested Pate at the scene, and further investigation found that he was in possession of methamphetamine, as well as equipment and material used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Pate was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of precursors of methamphetamine and unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, all felonies. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Following arraignment, Pate was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail. He is due back in the Town of Stony Point Court later this year to answer the charges.
